Mark Courtney is the lead patent attorney for The Courtney Firm based in Dallas, Texas. His combination of deep experience with all aspects of intellectual property law and real world engineering experience allows The Courtney Firm to deliver exceptional intellectual property law guidance to its clients.
Mark’s patent law experience includes 12 years as an in-house Senior Counsel for a Fortune 1000 technology company. His responsibilities included patent drafting, patent analysis, patent infringement and licensing. As part of the international licensing team, Mark prosecuted patents with strategic value and evaluated potentially adverse patents. As an in-house intellectual property counsel, Mark managed a large segment of the company’s overall patent portfolio where he utilized his engineering experience as an integrated circuit architect for Texas Instruments, Inc.
At Texas Instruments, Inc., Mark focused on the design and development of digital integrated circuits and gained technical experience in circuit design, semiconductor layout, simulation and CAD systems. At the Courtney Firm, Mark combines his technical expertise and intellectual property law experience to advise clients on patent portfolio management; patent licensing, patent litigation support, patent preparation and patent infringement prosecution. Mark’s clients appreciate his combination of technical skills and legal expertise, which allows him to look at every situation from both the technical and the intellectual property perspective.
Mark received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois (1982) and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University (1986). He graduated from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, cum laude, where he was a recipient of the Richards Medlock Andrews Patent Law Award (1993). Mark was admitted to the State Bar of Texas (1993) and is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
